New Year -- New Strategies

Don't know how many of you may have read Blue Ocean Strategy by Kim & Mauborgne but thought you might be interested in what they have to say.

(BOS)   Commitment, trust and voluntary cooperation are not merely attitudes or behaviors. They are intangible capital. When people have trust, they have heightened confidence in one another's intentions and actions. When they have commitment, they are even willing to override personal self-interest for the interests of the company.

Trepidation builds as people are required to step out of their comfort zones and change how they have worked in the past.

(LL)   With Laughter Links we ask people to step outside their comfort zones by putting themselves in a non-traditional setting along with their peers and supervisors. We ask them to make direct eye contact, which is not comfortable for some. We ask them to interact as a team. We engage them in deep robust belly laughter, stimulating both their creative and analytical brain processes.

(BOS)  Build people's trust and commitment deep in the ranks and inspire their voluntary cooperation.

(LL)   When employees spend 15-minutes each day in deep robust aerobic laughter they build a bond that cannot be entrusted by any other means.

(BOS)  Minimizing risk is essential when requiring significant change. Companies must reach beyond the usual suspects of carrots and sticks.

(LL)   You minimize the risk by engaging all levels of staff in daily laughter class.

(BOS)  The Three "E" Principles of Fair Process

      • Engagement = (LL) nothing more engaging than purposeful aerobic laughter

      • Explanation = (LL) goals become clear when the air is cleared of all mistrust

      • Clairity of Expectation = (LL) you feel more comfortable asking and answering questions of team members you have built trust and commitment with during daily laughter classes

(BOS)  In the end a company needs to invoke the most fundamental base of action: the attitudes and behavior of its people deep in the organization. You must create a culture of trust and commitment that motivates people to execute the agreed strategy -- not to the letter, but to the spirit. People's minds and hearts must align with the new strategy so that at the level of the individual, people embrace it of their own accord and willingly go beyond compulsory execution to voluntary cooperation in carrying it out.

(LL)  We clearly changed the attitude and outlook of those participating in our laughter (without humor) study. See the results for yourself at Authors Full Text or the shorter summary complete with graphs Authors Summary

Until next time … laugh yourselves silly. You'll feel better!
