Chromosomes back
to list
Elissa
Epel of the University of California at San Francisco, US, has
now looked at the effect of stress on the cell. Psychological
stress may be enough to age
a woman’s chromosomes by 10 years, the new
study suggests.
Epel
says she is not surprised.
“I believe that
how we perceive the world can matter more than
our objective reality,” she says. “If
we feel stress it needs to be
taken seriously because it may be embodied
at the cellular level.”
